what I do not understand, and there's actually no logical explanation for this
why is is too hard to hand out a couple of BLANKETS ?
and maybe set up SOUP-KITCHENS for the poorest ?
whenever a catastrophy comes up, and a human tragedy is close at hand - at least - the west [no muslims !] is ready to lend a helping hand immediately...
tents are being delivered, food, and blankets, medicine, whatever is needed in such cases, also people are being fed, on this emergency level !
now, there is no immediate "catastrophy" at hand in afghanistan, its JUST the regular "normal" NEED of BASIC articles...
for whatever "god's" sake, WHAT is happening in afghanistan ?
where are the responsible authorities ?
where is ACTION, instead of waiting for the west to provide again ?
where is the MERCY for their own people, their neighbours, their kinfolks ?
where is the HUMANITY for people on the brink ?
SHAME SHAME SHAME !
on ALL involved parties, including foreigners who do not SEE what is needed at a moment of emergency !
sorry, I can not "understand" this behaviour !!!
if I could I would YELL it, slap it into their indifferent faces !!!
ACT, don't just sit on your fattening azzes !
WHY NOT - at least - HAND OUT some BLANKETS ?
is THAT too expensive ?

Cold weather leaves 37 people dead in Afghanistan

Author : DPA
Kabul - Heavy snowfall and cold weather left at least 37 people mostly children dead in southern province of Ghazni in the past 24 hours, provincial governor said on Tuesday. "Over the past 24 hours, 37 people including some 20 children were killed due to cold weather in the province," provincial governor Faizullah Faizan said.
He said some of the people died en route to health centres after their vehicles were blocked by snow.
Heavy snowfall closed many roads linking the capital city to districts and remote areas, making it difficult for emergency aid workers to reach the needy people.
Faizan called on the central government and international organizations to air drop food and winter kits to the mountainous areas as they are difficult to reach them by roads.
The harsh winter this year has already left more than 300 people dead mainly in western provinces, while tens of thousands of animals also perished in the cold weather.

it makes me sick to the bone, to sit here in my cozy warm appartment, having breakfast, and at the same time KNOWING that there are people who are freezing to death, at night, in their windy homes, no wood to burn, no blankets to cover, no food to eat !
wished I could go out to the next store, buy up all the blankets they have and fly into afghanistan with that, and just hand it out !
again...
WHERE are the
responsible [afghan] authorities ?

Maybe because we have problems nearer at hand.
I am buying daily necessities for some old people. They pay, I do the work without any expense for them.
Food has become more expensive lately also here.
Now I am worried that the usual shopping list has shortened. Breakfast cereals (with fibre) and milk to go with them are removed.
This means less fibre for people with limited ability to move (therefore an outside buyer) and possible constipation problems.
Less calcium intake and increased risk for broken bones, which are both painful and horribly expensive for the health system.
OK, if I had the authority of a dietist I could possibly devise acceptable alternatives.
But the problem is very probably more wide reaching than just "my" old people. More expensive food is forcing people to cut even in things essential for reasonable health.
