Afghan Champions
Feb 5th, 2009, 10:31am

Dear friends,

I see nobody have congratulated the great Afghan cricket players who recently put happiness on Afghan faces.  Yes, they gave all the energy they had for cricket and for the Afghan name.

Yes, these cricket players deserve more than opening a new topic in the AOP discussion forum.  Remember, these are the same people who were born and raised during ugly war and lived under tents and witnessed 50 degree C heat waves.  These players played in the refugee camps and they don’t have any place to play or practice in their own country.  They are not hopeless and they continue their practice next to garbage, dirt and busy traffic roads.

One step closer to join the world professional league.  One day these players will bring the championship home and make Afghanistan a proud country.

Proud of them and I ask Allah (swt) to give them everything they wish and give them a victory.

Afghans are very talented and very successful people, but the stupid war prevented them from doing anything.  Cricket is one of the examples the players started with a very basic wood stick and now they are showing how talented they are.

I have no doubt if the war stops today, Afghans will be the most successful people in Asia.  I have no doubt they will bring championships in many fields.  Look how soon the Afghan sportsman brought the medal for the country.  That was amazing.  He probably practiced with sand bags on concrete, but he showed he is better than those who have every opportunity to be successful.

Cricket is a great game and to my frustation (  Grin ) Asian or east Asian peoples are very good at it. Good luck to Afghanistan and their introduction into the professional ranks of the game of Cricket. It just proves how good things can come out of bad situations.

May be in Shora-e-nezar circles,  since all those cricket players are pashtoon, your local mentality dictate that you believe what you want to believe, otherwise most of sport in Afghanistan are not momestic sport.

Dear Zarmina,

No England isn't no.1 I( think Australia is no.1. But countrys like India and Pakistan are always near the top. So if Afghanistan were to do well which without a doubt Afghanistan will do, they can beat their arch enemies Pakistan without even killing anyone, the proper way to do it!  Wink

Cheers.

Shaaash!

Regardless of where the sport has come from, it still makes the international news about Afghans and Afghanistan a very positive context. Athletic success brings status and prestige to the country.

The archaic form of Cricket is the good old domestic “Top Danda”. It has been refined and some rules have been set up in order to standardize the game. Now that Afghans have a natural affinity to it and they learn it quite easily and are successful at it, it adds to these players status.

In stead of engaging in an ethnic discussion and rejecting the positive influence of athletes in a society which is plagued by war, crimes, instability and drugs, this kind of development comes as a fresh breeze. The young generation look up to these players and have them as their icons. And what you are doing comes from the racially motivated animosity towards Pashtuns due to the dominance of Pashtuns in this particular sport. It should be added that this is most successful athletic contribution from Afghanistan internationally and you should be proud and stimulate this kind of success stories in other type of athletic fields as well.

I never heard you whining and complaining when Rohullah Nikpai won a bronze medal in Olympic games. As I recall it was not a domestic sport but an imported martial sport as well. It made me immensely proud that a Hazara brother won a medal for his country. He cried when he embraced the Afghan flag. That is called patriotism and what you are doing is a jealousy and racism. Shame on you inferior creature!

Grow up!

You should wash your dirty mouth and then speak about Uzbekistan. They are not Dogs of  Pars to Bark Wink

They know very well that every sport should be respected.

UZBEKISTAN KEEN TO WRESTLE WITH CRICKET

Uzbekistan a country proud of its chess grandmasters and twelve Olympic medallists since 1996 (three golds, three silvers and five bronzes in boxing, judo and wrestling, along with an Alpine skiing gold) is taking steps to form a cricket federation.

Rustam Kurbanov the Minister of Culture and Sport Affairs in a meeting with the Asian Cricket Council Chief Executive Syed Ashraful Huq, said “We are keen to reach up to cricket and see how well we can do. Many of us are aware of the game and would like to take part.”

A translation of the Laws of Cricket into Cyrillic Russian has been started.
